Abstract
Carol King Heckman (1907-1983) was a Denison University alumna who researched and wrote a genealogy of her ancestors, the Ewart family. The Ewart Family Papers, dated 1864-1979, 2024, contain correspondence, clippings, and photographs collected by Heckman. Also included in this collection is the written genealogy Heckman compiled and wrote titled Chronicles of the Ewarts 1740-1969 with Related Families.
Scope and Contents of the Materials
The Ewart Family Papers, dated 1864-1979, 2024, contain correspondence, clippings, and photographs collected by Carol King Heckman for her research on her ancestors, the Ewart family. Many of her ancestors were connected to Denison University either as alumni or trustees. This collection contains documents related to Thomas West Ewart (1816-1881; Denison University trustee, 1844-1851 and 1862-1881), Edward Gear Ewart (1857-1935; Denison University alumnus, 1878), Frank Carman Ewart (1871-1942; Denison University alumnus, 1892), and Elizabeth Sage Ewart (1874-1951; Shepardson College alumna, 1892). Also included in this collection is the written genealogy Heckman compiled and wrote titled Chronicles of the Ewarts 1740-1969 with Related Families.
Collection Historical Note
Carol King Heckman was born on May 10, 1907, to Mamie (Pearce) and Frank King. She graduated from Denison University in 1929 and married Aldred Heckman (Denison alumnus, 1927) on June 14, 1929. Carol Heckman researched her family history and produced a family genealogy titled Chronicles of the Ewarts 1740-1969 with Related Families in 1969. She produced a supplemental volume in 1971. Heckman died in 1983.
