Richard “Rick” Boyer (1943-2021) was an American author. He published several novels, including a series of detective thrillers. The Rick Boyer Papers, dated 1982-1988, contain typed manuscripts and master proofs for two of his novels: The Daisy Ducks and Moscow Metal.
Administrative/Biographical History
Richard “Rick” Boyer (1943-2021) was an American author. Boyer graduated from Denison University in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in English. He continued his education at the University of Iowa where he earned a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. While there, he studied under novelist Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
Boyer briefly worked in publishing before he authored several novels of his own, including a thriller series with titles such as Billingsgate Shoal (1982, winner of The Edgar Allen Poe Award), The Penny Ferry (1984), The Daisy Ducks (1986), Moscow Metal (1987), The Whale’s Footprints (1988), Gone to Earth (1990), Yellow Bird (1991), Pirate Trade (1994), and The Man Who Whispered (1998). Boyer also taught English and Creative Writing at Wester Carolina University from 1982 until his retirement in 2008.
