Denison History - Short Accounts (subject file) | Archives and Special Collections Catalog

Title:
Denison History - Short Accounts (subject file)
Description:

File contains a variety of accounts of Denison history, mostly focused on the early history of the institution.  Several timelines are included highlighting important dates in the development of the college and its various related institutions: Shepardson College, Music Conservatory, Doane Academy, Granville Female College and Granville Male Academy.  Several articles by Wally Chessman are copied from the alumni magazine as well as a few Denisonian articles pertaining to the Black Student Union Demands in the early 70's.

General descriptions of Denison are included from across the years.  These are mostly taken from the catalogs but some are written by more contemporary authors looking back at the history.  One excerpt from the catalog details the financial history of Denison from 1831-1863.

The file may be of interest to those looking for quick descriptions to compare across the years, although it is not complete and appears to end during the late 1980's.

Phys. Desc:
File contains a letter to Michelle Myers welcoming her to the college from Flo Hoffman along with a listing of resources about Denison history:  several timelines, excerpts from the catalogs across the years with the general college description, articles from the alumni magazine and local papers focused on Denison history, several Denisonian articles about the black demands in the 1970's, several short summaries of the college history.  Also included are photocopies of a few early campus maps and a list of the presidents.
