Description:
Denison was founded as a Baptist college in 1831, and the college has long-standing ties to the Baptist leaders in Ohio. Included in this folder are multiple different overviews of Ohio Baptists and how they were involved with Denison, including notable Denison alumnus who were involved in the American Baptist Convention. There are documents and references to when Denison became unaffiliated as a Baptist college, notably Board of Trustee minutes from June 10, 1938, October 9, 1953, and October 5, 1967, in addition to President Blair Knapp’s “Letters to Trustees” from August 1957 and a “Statement of relationship for Baptist related colleges” from October 5, 1967.

Includes a list of Denison Alumni in prominent positions of leadership in the American Baptist Convention, and a list of sons and daughts of Baptist leaders at Denison. There is a pamplet and articles discussing the history of Baptist colleges in Ohio, why Baptist leaders wanted Baptist affiliated higher institutions, and documents and references for when Denison ended her Baptist affiliation. There are two surveys of religious denomination of Denison students, one from 1920 the other from 1950. Lastly, there is a survey of the history of Denison's Baptist ties, from 1814 to 1950.
