Acquisition Note:
Percy Wiltsee, Class of 1901, was a longtime trustee and benefactor of Denison University. Wiltsee purchased one of the original forty potrfolios in 1956 for $750 and graciously donated the boxed set to Denison. Since then, the library has made subsequent purchases of individual leaves from other Ege sets.

Scope and Contents: A collection of original medieval manuscript leaves relating to the work of Otto F. Ege, art historian and the creator of the "Fifty Original Leaves from Medieval Manuscripts" portfolio. Holdings include one of the "Fifty Original Leaves" portfolios, donated by Percy Wiltsee (Denison Class of 1901), and additional collected and purchased medieval manuscript leaves. Of special note is the Alchemy Manuscript, transcribed by University of Erfurt student Reymbertus Eynbeck in 1459, which contains three texts. The first text was written by the Franciscan Johannes de Rupescissa and is referred to as "The Consideration of Quintessence." The third is a brief Pseudo-Lullian text referred to as "A Shortcut to the Philosopher's Stone." Translations of these two texts are the work of Dr. Frederick Porcheddu, Associate Professor of English and Denison alumnus.
